DJ Ambush - AMtroduction to DOOM

And with the October 40th show, I got the go-ahead to post these new #MONTHOFTHEMASK DOOM mixtapes. The second is DJ Ambush's tribute to DOOM, mixing up remixes, alternate versions and just a shitload of bugged-out DOOMtastic shits. And if you hit the break, check Ambush's tokidoki DOOM fitted (holding a donut for added measure). Roll some super stanky shit to this one!

L&S - DOOM For Dummies

First of the approved #THEMONTHOFTHEMASK mixtapes from the #DSTRCT9 fam comes from L&S. This shit feels like Floetry vs. DOOM, with L&S dipping into that Hip-Hop Soul bag of tricks for their sultry vocals. Kind of short, but I love these tracks; it's a nice way to flip the throwback jawns that DOOM spit over.

L&S "Hell No"

We're days away from the October 40th DOOMstravaganza, and Ambush hit me with this cut from L&S; Latrese & Summers will be dropping their DOOM For Dummies mixtape on Wednesday, featuring their own unique takes on DOOM classics. They have those sultry vocals that you fucking NEED to hear over those fly instrumentals, and this one is no exception. But it's not just love and loss, they bring their personalities into their lyrics, so expect some knowledge and humor to boot. Blast this one LOUD - champion music.

DOOMSTRAVAGANZA (October 40th, 2011)

Now before you talk shit, yes, both the flier and the post title say October 40th. That's not a typo. When Ambush hit me about helping present the #MONTHOFTHEMASK with the #DSTRCT9 crew, it was damn near the middle of October. So, as to keep this train moving, we asked the Gods and the Earths to extend October to include this DOOMSTRAVAGANZA night, which goes down at The Arts Garage in Philly on the 9th of November (for you mortals); truthfully, it'll be the 40th of October. Get that shit RIGHT. Copies of Ambush's Amtroduction To DOOM mixtape, as well as La'Trese & Summer's DOOM For Dummies mixtape will be available, and while masks are not required, they are highly recommended attire.

To further whet your appetite, we've got "The Rock Pro.Pain Flow", which features Chances R (of Society Parks) ripping through the instrumental for "Rock Co.Kane Flow", the Jake One-produced DOOM feature from De La's Grind Date album. Shit's blaze.

MF DOOM "My Favorite Ladies" The Hank McCoy Remixes

First drop from the #MONTHOFTHEMASK series finds Hank McCoy putting his own spin on MF DOOM's "My Favorite Ladies", which may be about females... or about shit that can get you loose(r). Part of the allure of DOOM's spit was when I realized "hey, he twisted a rhyme that could be smoked a few different ways". Not groundbreaking shit, but he always surprised me. Still does. Hank provides a couple of remixes to this sly one, sampling a couple of solid throwback sounds, giving you different ways to rock to this one. Big up to #DSTRCT9, RTD-approved shit. Enjoy that.

[preview] #MONTHOFTHEMASK

The homey DJ Ambush asked me if I'd like to present a #MONTHOFTHEMASK series, celebrating the works of the one like DOOM, aka MF DOOM and a bunch of other aliases. No hesitation on my answer. With Halloween and my birthday in the same month, it was a no brainer. I can't wait to showcase the music of the DSTRCT9 familia, as well as the other mixtapes and visual art that will be part of this series. Hit the jump for an idea of what you'll get, as well as two of the covers for different #MONTHOFTHEMASK projects. More on this as I receive it. #ALLCAPS
