King Geedorah Unleashes His "Snake Charmer" Mix on Solid Steel

If you love mixes and radio shows like I do, you need to be keeping it locked to Solid Steel. It has always been the place for the Broadest Beats, and this week—as per usual—they highlight just how important this radio / mix series truly is.

In hour one, MF Doom's King Geedorah moniker steps up to the decks. If you remember, it was Ninja Tune's Big Dada imprint that released Geedorah's dynamic Take Me to Your Leader album in 2003; that project recently got re-issued, so Geedorah dropped this rare, exclusive set on them. There are a number of unreleased tracks on here, including new Paul Barman, JJ DOOM, and even a flip of DJ Khaled's "I Got the Keys." So slick.

Don't leave just yet, though. Jon1st returns for his 2016 best-of mix; for those who remember, he did a similar one back in 2015. His set features over 60 tracks that got dropped in 2016, including personal favorites from Zed Bias, Diemantle, Sinistarr, Ivy Lab, Alix Perez, and more. With Jon1st being a true DJ's DJ, don't expect this to just be drop fi drop; he really gets things going in this set.

You can stream Geedorah's mix right here, and check out Jon1st's set down below.

MED, Blu, and Madlib ft. MF Doom - "Bad Neighbor"

I really don't need to write anything to make you listen to this, right? Just look at the names on the title; it's certified. Word is that MF Doom's rhyme was written from the perspective of someone just inviting themselves into your home... when you aren't home. Wasn't expecting the chilled, funky vibe this one employs.

Word is this is taken from MED, Blu, and Madlib's Bad Neighbor album, which drops on October 30 and features a grip of great acts over 100% Madlib beats. You're welcome.

MF DOOM "My Favorite Ladies" The Hank McCoy Remixes

First drop from the #MONTHOFTHEMASK series finds Hank McCoy putting his own spin on MF DOOM's "My Favorite Ladies", which may be about females... or about shit that can get you loose(r). Part of the allure of DOOM's spit was when I realized "hey, he twisted a rhyme that could be smoked a few different ways". Not groundbreaking shit, but he always surprised me. Still does. Hank provides a couple of remixes to this sly one, sampling a couple of solid throwback sounds, giving you different ways to rock to this one. Big up to #DSTRCT9, RTD-approved shit. Enjoy that.

DOOM "Cellz"

DOOM "Cellz": I'm dropping this cut for two reasons: one, I don't see a lot of people picking up on it, and two, I love how Daniel Dumile drops those crazy found sounds from whatever random white guy audio source he finds his clips. This beat has that Blaxploitation vibe to it, and MF Villain goes for his, as per usual. If the rest of the album sounds more like this, he might have a winner.

Oh, and for what it's worth, I'm not really feeling DOOM over "Lightworks". Too much going on in the beat to have his scatterbrained lyricism ruining it. Props to Shake for leaking it, though.

MF Doom "That's That"

MF Doom "That's That":Here's a track from DOOM's forthcoming Born Like This album. I highly recommend it, especially for you Friday night smokers who just got off work, and are two seconds from hitting that Michael Phelps.

I dunno how they do it, but props go to OnSMASH. HipHopDX has more news, and a tracklist, for you freaks.

[video] J Rocc Drops Some New MF Doom

Here's some video of J Rocc dropping some new MF DOOM shit (produced by J Dilla) from Born Like This at a J Dilla Tribute party last night (Feb. 7th 2009):

Make sure you cop one of those Ma Dukes tees from Stones Throw; she's currently suffering from lupus right now, and they are already not seeing those ends.

MF Doom Speaks On Imposter Question

If you've followed this blog, you've seen my take on MF Doom's "Metal Face Imposter" situation. A piece of his Wax Poetics interview was posted on the Stones Throw Forum, and has this gem in it:

There are claims of imposter DOOMs wearing the mask and doing shows for you.
That's interesting. I'll say this: I've been rhyming on the microphone professionally for twenty years, out there when [Big Daddy] Kane was there. I was doing big-ass stadiums when Pac was in the Digital Underground--Latifah, 3rd Bass, De La, KMD. On the microphone, for hours every night, busting my ass since I was, like, eighteen. It never ended. If it wasn't the stage, it was on the street, battling or whatever in the '90s when there were no deals. And I'm still doin' it, to the point where now I'm thirty-seven.
Last year, I did some show, wrecked it, girls climbing up onstage and shit--that was the first time that happened--but we was rocking, right?Somebody from the label was going to be there. I was like, "Cool, he saw the show, and it was wrecked." Next couple of days, I speak to him, and he was like, "Good show, but a lot of people are saying it wasn't you!" I'm like, "All right, every show I do, motherfuckers start saying that: 'Was it really him?'" I lost fifty-nine pounds last year on some healthy shit, and I'm out there busting my ass, and niggas is still saying that shit? Niggas is caught up in the character part. But--I will say this: you never know what to expect. I'll fuck around and do some shit like that, just to fuck around with a nigga head.
'Cause I'm like this: it's music; I'm doing the shows; the stage is my canvas; I'll put whatever up there for the visible eye. But it's music, for listening to. Looking at it has nothing to do with what it sounds like. A blind person could be at the show and feel it clearly, but don't see nothing of it. Don't matter what the shit look like. Look, was niggas rockin' or was niggas rockin'? See, I'm snapping niggas out of it. I might change my mind and want to retire from that part. I'm not sweating my ass out onstage no more. I've spit hundreds of thousands of lyrics, time and time again. Maybe I'll take a break, or maybe never come back. That's my choosing as an artist. And it's their choosing to criticize it too. But that's my other job--to snap niggas out of it.

You think Doom is just a smart businessman, and feeds into that hype, or what? I mean, this is really some Tony Clifton shit IMHO...

Dilla. Ghost. Doom. Leaks.

Last month, I gave you guys the heads up on Stones Throw reporting the release of a few cuts that MF Doom and Ghostface Killah worked on over J Dilla instrumentals (primarily from Donuts). Props to Alex over at Killer Bee Promotions for hooking up links of the two tracks in question:

So were these made first, then the instrumentals released on Donuts or the other way around? Dilla RIP. Bang these LOUD!

Dilla. Ghost Doom.

From the latest Stones Throw e-mail:

In late 2005 Ghostface Killa and MF DOOM were both recording over tracks from J Dilla's instrumental opus, Donuts, which saw release the following February. Some of these were released on Ghostface's Fishscale in 2006, while others, including a Dilla-Doom project, were postponed indefinitely after J Dilla's passing. Two of these tracks, “Sniperlite” and “Murder Goons,” will be released digitally, exclusively through Stones Throw's webstore, due to launch in late June.

Miley Cyrus Pulls A MF Doom

You would think, in a world where mothers are willing to create fake, dead soldier husbands in order to score Hannah Montana tickets, that the chick who plays Hannah Montana on stage AND in the show (Miley Cyrus) would have the audacity to perform life. Not so... word is getting out that Miley Cyrus has a body double, who is supposedly performing in her place. I guess when you make that much guap off the backs of hard-working parents and the bratty kids who they indulge, you can't be in all places all the time.

And I thought the MF Doom imposter story was bad. Check out this fan video of the supposed Miley-swap:

Go about 2:24 into the video. Did you see one Miley leave stage, under a fucking sheet, and a second come out? I mean, if she is that tired, cancel shows! Don't have some fake come out and swindle the screaming fans.

But, I guess that's how the rich stay richer. I should have invested in some Hannah Montana tix. I could have made some serious cake.

MF DOOM: "What up? I'm dead"

taken from the Stones Throw newsletter:

DOOM RESPONDS TO RUMORS
Every day for the past month we've been hit up by people wanting explanations, statements, clarifications, and declarations about MF DOOM. Is he lip synching? (No. Listen to the videos on Youtube.) Is he an impostor? (No, but he did lose some pounds.) Is he in the hospital? (No, he's in his studio ... or if not there, you can find him in the pub with the grub stain.)

Reached earlier this morning at his home in Georgia, an alive and well MF DOOM issued this statement: "What up? I'm dead."

DOOM was in Los Angeles recently and recorded a few verses at The Bomb Shelter studio, where Madvillain, Quasimoto, YNQ, and Madlib classics have been made. Among the new joints recorded was one with him and Guilty Simpson over J Dilla's "Mash" and another over Dilla's "Lightworks". "Mash's Revenge" will be released on the album "B-Ball Zombie War" on October 2. Take a listen:
So it looks like the Metal Face Terrorist is NOT dead (although this doesn't touch on a possible heart attack/hospital stay as hinted to on GRANDGOOD). And him rippin' over "Lightworks"!? I'm intrigued...
