Shy FX Raver EP

I've been championing this track for a bit - I first heard it over three months ago on MistaJam's show, and was instantly amazed. It's everything I loved about Jungle and Drum & Bass, from the perfectly-utilized source material to GOOD lyrics and all other kinds of Soul infused in it. Hell, it even gets on its Carnival ting at the end, which I didn't even realize was part of the same tune at first! The video dropped last week, and made me wish I could've cameo'd in it - all kinds of scene luminaries are spotted in there, giving the track a kind of unifying quality with the scene, which at times can be very segregated. Good music brings us all together, no? Well, anyways, I know the MJ Cole remix was given away, but this free download, which costs nothing but being added to the Digital Soundboy mailing list, also includes two mixes from Shy FX: the original and a more dancehall version. They also give out the Breakage version, which touches on a lil' hardcore jungle techno ting, and is one of the highlights of this EP. Big tune overall, and it costs you nah-ting. Hit this link and get some quality music for the beginning of your week!

D1 Drops 15 Free Tunes

D1 drops sick dubstep tracks. Today he leaked 15 free tunes, including a remix of Benga's "Crunked Up". I saw sites uploading yousendit links or individual MP3s to their own servers, but I figured, why not .zip the lot of 'em and upload them to Megaupload? NOTE: These are all 320kbps MP3s, so the file is ~202MB.

Joulz Il The Il Identity

Today marks a new chapter in the career of the MC known as Joulz Il. Last year, heads were asked to take part in an Il Experiment, which garnered interest and brought people some ill music. The New Jou Year has given us the fruit of that labor in The Il Identity, which can be download for free via Joulz Il's Bandcamp page. You should be familiar with some of these cuts, while others might be knew, but know that they are all dope, and all are produced by Entity Starr. Thing is, this is just the tip of the iceberg... the next couple of months are about to get very hot and hectic for Hip-Hop. All of that will be revealed on Monday, when I bring you a special Q&A with Joulz about 2009, his forthcoming projects, and beyond. For now, preview the cuts below and do yourself a favor - download them!

The DTV Sample Free Beat CD

I was conversing with my boy Deal The Villain about his beats, and he had the nerve to tell me that he feels his beats on The DTV Beat Tape were some of his worst beats, but he took it a step further - he sent me this ready-made, sample-free beat CD to prove it. And boy has he. I keep tellin' y'all that Jersey is active, and free fire like this is just an example. Hit up Deal for some heat on the beats.

The Il Experiment

Check Joulz Il explaining this experiment he and Entity Starr have going on:

Essentially, what they are asking YOU to do is download some free music (sendspace link HERE); then send them some critiques. What do you like/dislike, what do you think would work on an album or what have you. Basically, is this music hot or not? It's a pretty genuine way of doing things - artists looking for honesty from the public.

You can hit up Joulz on twitter, MySpace or send an e-mail to theilexperiment@gmail.com with your honest opinion. It's that simple.

Expect a 2nd interview with Joulz Il INRE this project and other things this South Dallas lyricist has in the pipeline.

DJ Dlux Love Blows

I first got put onto DJ Dlux through his Drum & Bass mixing (which is pretty slick, I must say); I forget how I found out, but I randomly heard that this Chitown selector also produced Hip-Hop, and he recently sent me his first Hip-Hop LP, Love Blows. Some interesting samples and structures throughout, this is a collection you can kick back to, or road trip to. Check it out.

Cy Yung & Centric Back 2 Lyfe: The Return Of Greatness

I dropped the original Back 2 Lyfe mixtape back in June, and got an email over the weekend to Back 2 Lyfe: The Return Of Greatness, which features 6 additional cuts that weren't on the original, and is a great prequel to Cy Yung & Centric's Back 2 Lyfe album, dropping in early 2009. Here are two tracks you can preview by themselves:

• "Proud Of Me"
• "P.O.E.T." (ft. Indy Sparks)

DJ Absurd "Dutty Lo" (mirror): The homey DJ Absurd, who you've heard DJ Nappy flip on the THUGSTEP tip, hit me with a free cut to celebrate the release of Boot&Leg 002 (grab that monster, early - stock disappeared out of Juno in one week). This one is a fast-paced bassline frenzy, throwing some Chuck D and DMX samples into this dancefloor banger. Shouts to him for this one!

One of my favorite producers right now is Philly's Aeon. I've grown to love his work through productions for Tanya Morgan, Elucid, Che Grand, Spec Boogie and others, as well as his wild remix work. He hit my inbox with a 19-track, 45 minute free beat tape, Aeon Got Beats Vol. 1, and you guys need to grab this one. Early!

The Equation Y=MC+P

Here's a free LP entitled Y=MC+P from a duo that goes by the name The Equation. All of the rhymes are done by UllNevaNo, with beats from Knowledge. You can definitely hear some potential in these tracks, and I can't be mad at someone who is keeping that real Hip-Hop alive. The second half, for some reason, got me open more than the first half... some really Soulful vibes in the beats, and UllNevaNo pulls no punches.
