I unfortunately wasn't able to go see this, but I think my like-minded bredren and sistren out there in the NYC area should go check this out:
In a southern tale of love, magic, jealousy and secrets, Toulou escapes from the Mssissippi Delta cotton fields to pursue her dream of singing the blues in Memphis. When she meets a rambling blues man, the notorious Ace of Spades, this dream is realized in a way she could never have imagined.
Hoodoo Love was originally produced as part of the Cherry Lane Mentor Project 2006 mentored by Lynn Nottage.
This is on a limited engagement; it started on October 16th and is running through December 9th, so head on over to the Cherry Lane Theatre page, or this NY Times article on playwright Katori Hall, as well as the Hoodoo Love EPK and get more info on this play.
