AWKWORD: The "I" Freestyle x Cultural Hangover Radio Interview

On September 1, I joined The Cult (DJ Reese, Add & Ciana Monet) for Cultural Hangover Radio at Montclair State University's 90.3 FM Studio. The Cult and I chopped it up about the origin of "AWKWORD" & "The People's Champ"; my upbringing in Connecticut; my World View project; and what it's like collaborating with Hip Hop legends. The chemistry was palpable, and the interview shifted seamlessly from comical to serious throughout... then, I freestyled for nearly 50 bars over the classic DJ Premier beat Jay-Z used for "So Ghetto".

AWKWORD ft. Jade Foxx "The Dating Game" (prod. by Flam & Aksim and The White Shadow): After the acclaim “Mr. President” got, AWKWORD (alongside Outrageous Ashley and HHC) present this interesting track, giving cats both sides of the coin when it comes to, well, dating. Think of it as “No Scrubs” vs. “No Pigeons” on one track, for 2011. Love that he got the homegirl Jade Foxx to spit some venom for the ladies on her verse. This is taken from World View, AWK’s 100% for-charity global Hip-Hop project, with features from Joell Ortiz, Sean Price, Sha Stimuli and KRS-One over beats from producers hailing for 15+ nations! With the Internets connecting people at lightening speed, it makes sense to embark on a project like that.

Why yes, it's definitely been five years since I first started rockthedub (back when I still had a "blogspot.com" attached). It's been a wild journey - I went from needing a spot to let some of my unpublished interviews and reviews breathe, and turned into a destination for heads who want a different take on the normal shit you find on music blogs. As we always do around this time, I felt like I needed to drop a special compilation, and tried to assemble a load of previously -unreleased/exclusive material, so on this project you'll find new shit from Brown Bag AllStars, Zilla Rocca, Curly Castro, Elucid, Scripts N Screwz, Pugs Atomz & DJ Vadim, The Two. Fifteens, Whygee, an exclusive remix of a J NiCS track from Numonics, two DJ Nappy refixes, Mario Dones, Rickie Jacobs with Artic, and plenty more tracks.

AWKWORD ft. Y-Love "Mr. President (Wisconsin)" (prod. by The White Shadow): While we don't keep it political on RTD all the time, we're not just all music all the time. We come from the era of Public Enemy, where the music was a tool that helped the outside world understand what was going on. Also helped those within the scene get a better understanding of the ills that life tried throwing at us. On this leak from the forthcoming rockthedub fifth anniversary compilation, FiF, AWK and Y-Love don't hold back in trying to educate those who might sleep on the ills of the GOP, using the crazy shit with Governor Walker in Wisconsin as a jumping-off point. Crazy to think you could have so much taken from you while trying to provide for your family. Shit like this happens a lot, and with decisions like this going on, these two are right - it's only a matter of time that something like this spreads like wildfire across the country.
