Hive Implantation

A while ago, I tried (and failed) to record some old cassettes to my PC. One of them was this tape; Hive's Implantation was a mixtape I copped at State Of The Art Records on South Street in Philly like 10 years ago, and I've been trying to find a digital copy for the last few years. Today, I finally grabbed one, and I still love this thing. Its that pure dark techstep vibe, with some serious classics thrown in - from both staples in the scene (Tech Itch, Jonny L, Ed Rush & Optical, etc.) and some lesser known tracks - oddly enough, its the cuts like "Sweeper" and "Soundstorm" that stuck out more than the bigger bits. Take a trip back with me as we try to find the mark of the beast on the back of our necks, try to rip out the tracking devices and thoroughly get mashed out by this cavalcade of beats.

Tracklist:

Side A

Absolute Zero & Subphonics "The Code"
Dylan "The Spine"
Jonny L "Wish U Had Something Remix"
One Drop "Sweeper"
Grasscutter & Extra Breaks "Ridiculous Bass"
Dillinja "Fluid"
Panacea "Chrome 13"
3D & Snuggles "Defender (Problem Child Remix)"

Side B

Dylan "Witchcraft Remix"
Future Forces "Cold Fusion"
R.A.W. & E-Sassin "Soundstorm"
Technical Itch "Protection"
Pure Instinct "Glitch"
Ed Rush & Optical "Satellites"
The Chemical Pilot "Classical Fruit (Future Forces Mix)"
D'Cruze "Holocaust"
Genotype "E.T."

What else kills me is that this is apparently a rare release; the info on Discogs.com says that only 50 copies were released? I had no idea, although only one copy of the tape was in the shop when I plunked down my ends. Good buy.

soundstorm looks that ultimate '99 L.A. DNB marriage with the two producers who were really great at the time.

another old L.A. tune i'd say to look up is "diet for murder" which i think was R.A.W. (might have been under the B-Boy 3000 guise) or E-Sassin.

It was B-Boy 3000. I haven't been able to find it anywhere on vinyl or (unmixed) MP3 since I first heard it in like... 1999? I would LOVE to find a copy.

i'll have to take a look. i've been looking for an unmixed MP3 of "sweeper" by one drop for the longest.

Hey rockthedub'ers,

My name is J and I'm the guy who listed "Implantation" on Discogs. I used to be super into Celestial/Vortex back in their heyday, a huge Hive fan, and was so intrigued by the seeming non-existence of this tape along with its fringe/paranoid subject matter that I splurged 14 euros on it to order it from some guy in France on ebay. This was back in '02 I think. Anyways, a few years later I met Hive after a show he spun in our town and he was totally surprised that I even knew about the tape, much less had a copy! It was he who told me that only 50 were recorded and that they never ended up being released due to sample-clearance issues (not sure which samples in particular?). Anyways, just thought I would share that with ya! Peace and respect.

No problem, glad to be of service. I think the only reason a digital copy exists is that someone snagged it from me on Soulseek a few years back (I remember how vexed I was to find it in my Shared folder, ha!). But the scans and .mp3 rips are definitely from when I did them. I love this tape to death! It's so damn DARK! Great background music for FPS's, too! :D

Hi! Can you please re-up the Implantation tape in 320 kbps? I have a lower quality download and love everything Hive has ever done, especially his mixes.

I would really appreciate it Thank you!
