[preview] Prelude To Deadpool Corps #2
Just read Prelude to Deadpool Corps #1 yesterday, and loved the Lady Deadpool story. Wanda Wilson FTW. Prelude to Deadpool Corps will drop a new issue each week, and the 2nd issue (starring Kidpool) drops on the 10th. Newsarama has a preview of this issue up now. Looks like Kidpool pals around w/ a Kid Cyclops and the X-Men? Shouts to TDB.

Draker "Over (Instrumental)"
Drake "Over (Instrumental)" (prod. by Boi-1da & Al Khaaliq): I just got a blast (whattup @CathrynMarie) that had Diggy fucking Simmons rapping over "Over", which is the 1st single from Drake's Thank Me Later (which I'm just not that into). In trying to have a least dope caliber MCs rap over this, I figure why not post the instrumental so niggas can download it. I imagine mad cats are already dissecting this, but given the odd structure of the beat (AKA the non-rhyming chorus has a better beat than the verses), I'm not sure I'll fuck with it. Surprise me.MP3 via Splash, who all versions of the track.
EDIT Whygee "Over Freestyle" [via @Whygeezy] [LINK UPDATED]
EDIT Mic Wilson "It's Over"
EDIT Darren Hanible "Under(rated)"
EDIT Tha Future "Back2ThaFuture" [via BuckMarleyXXX]

Elucid "Freshman Friday" x "Mr. Leviathan"
I've got two SICK tracks from Elucid, and instead of just writing about one and not giving props to the other, allow me to break down both cuts in one post. New shit from the Lessondary Overlord!Elucid "Freshman Friday" (prod. by Brizzo): This is a cut that I've had for a bit. As Gutta says, this ain't "luxury rap" - it's straight to the jugular with a machete rap. That beat from Brizzo is just too ill - it's a pretty tasty sample, and the way he cooked it up, where its simple enough to be dynamic on its own, but when you add Elucid's signature voice to the mix, mixing abstract visions and precision cut darts? Shit, I've been WAITING to drop this one on the masses, trust. Blowin' everything you're listening to out of the water...
Elucid "Mr. Leviathan" (prod. by Inko): It's been a minute since we heard "Run Away", the first leaked offering from Gutta and Inko, and this one is my personal favorite of the two. It delves into a dubbed out zone (that bassline is hypnotic), and allows Elucid to really experiment. Peep the digital screw and edits thrown on his vocals randomly - this is acid rap. "I'm finished breaking atoms, now it's time to split wigs" morphs from a line in the first verse to a true mantra for how niggas wanna attack the game. Take it in blood, get down or lay down. The shit needs to change, people, and when you hear MORE artists who are freely blending sounds like this in a few years, we won't get too angry if you don't throw a mention.
Know that we know, though. OH, and don't get me started on Cap.One...

During this week's show, we had a great interview with one of the independent Hip-Hop's young MCs on the rise, New York City's own Five the General (http://www.myspace.com/ItsAStoneWorld & http://www.twitter.com/Five_General).

Some of the topics we've touched base during the interview included Five's musical & environmental influences, what inspires him creatively to make music in his life, his latest mixtape project Anything But Safe with Sheek Louch of D-Block/The Lox that's out now (download here) and future plans, his viewpoint about the mainstream music industry & Hip-Hop music's lack of balance, the ridiculousness of straight glorifying prison or street life to the youth without talking about consequences and lots more!
There are brand new episodes of the Black Agenda Report and Direct EFX segments included in this week's broadcast.

DJ D-Sharp ft. Kev Choice & Tony Vic "Definition Of A Star"
DJ D-Sharp ft. Kev Choice & Tony Vic "Definition Of A Star": Normally, I'm posting a dope mix or compilation from the homey D-Sharp. Most don't realize that he's a producer who's worked with heads like Lyrics Born, Lateef the Truthspeaker, Shock G and more, and throws out this West Coast-leaning banger with two ill MCs from the Bay. Look out for the video for this one, and who knows - will this be branching out into a full album? Time will tell...Grab the full EP via therealdjdsharp.com.

The Weevil Series: LARVA
Interesting concept, this Weevil Series; check the write up:The Weevil Series consists of three 12" records, released one after another during 2010 (15th of March, 14th of June, 13th of September) and as triple pack collectors edition at the end of the year.
The Weevil Series is not meant to be a new label nor is it part of any existing label catalogue. Instead of catalogue numbers, all three records have a 'protagonist', each one of three development stages of a weevil – larva, pupa, adult.
The records are produced in a limited and hand-numbered edition of 333 pieces each, 300 of which will be sold singly, hand-stamped in black, another 30, hand-stamped in red, will be part of the collectors edition, 3 will remain untouched and locked away by the artist, who remains anonymous.
On the 15th of March, the first of three, LARVA, will be available through Hardwax Berlin
LARVA in three parts after the jump.

Wu Massacre: Method Man Variant Cover
This is the first of three collector's edition covers for Wu Massacre, illustrated by Chris Bachalo, with art direction by Alex Haldi, and it reminds me of some comic book shit. Marvel had a month of Deadpool variants in February, and them shits would go retardo, price-wise. Shouts to BoBO.previous Method Man, Raekwon & Ghostface Killah "Criminology 2.5"

Shawn Jackson "Money Mentality"
Shawn Jackson "Money Mentality" (prod. by Numonics): I love the title of this Ruby Hornet/DJ Booth/IM KING project, Being Cool Doesn't Pay The Bills. If being cool paid the bills, I'd be debt free. Actually, no - I watch pro wrestling and read comic books and blog about music. What the fuck is cool about that? Anyways, I'm broke but have a money mentality - always thinking hustle. This could be my anthem for the last year. Fuck you, pay me. Dope art courtesy of UNKLELUC.com.

George Reefah "Rollin'"

George Reefah "Rollin'": This track sounds like something Flo-Rida would drop with some glitched-out video. Toronto's George Reefah rides that Pop-y beat like it should be - this is for the ladies at the clubs, strictly. I'm not sure if homegirl is promoting the use of E pills in the chorus, but I can just imagine some slore dancin' in the club, mouthing the words. The "Rollin'" single drops March 29th, with the album (Reefalution) dropping later.

TRUTHLiVE "The UnLearning"
TRUTHLiVE "The UnLearning" (prod. by Vitamin D): Damn, if I had an album, I'd want my intro to sound as triumphant as this healthy beat from Vitamin D (see what I did there?); TRUTH's UnLearning EP drops next week for $free.99.

UllNevaNo "That Means..."
UllNevaNo "That Means...": I've got the first leak from UllNevaNo's The Color Brown mixtape, which RTD will be sponsoring. Dude's expressing himself over nothing but Kev Brown heat, and this goes crazy. This nigga definitely touches down on this one, classic style. This is the first of four leaks from the project, which we're looking to drop mid-Summer 2010.Follow @UllNevaNoHipHop to keep abreast to homey's movements.

Redman "Mind On My Money"
Redman "Mind On My Money": Shit, I dropped this and had to rewind it. One of Hip-Hop's finest coasts so effortlessly on this slower beat, reminiscent of some classic Hip-Hop beats. Right in the pocket on this one. No word on when Reggie will drop, but I'll be in line when it drops.NMC Premiere, via Nah Right.

Rahzel Jr. "Far Away"
Rahzel Jr. "Far Away": Yes, this is the son of Rahzel from The Roots. He doesn't got into the beatboxing though - this is a song dedicated to those lost in the wake of the earthquakes in Haiti. Watch out for his OverAchievement LP, which should be out Spring 2010.

Dutch New York "Angels Freestyle"
Dutch New York "Angels Freestyle": Oddly enough, I like a lot of the different versions of this track much more than the original. Diddy "crooning" over this beat is just not the business. Dutch New York stabbing it? I can dig it.Via I Am Dutch New York.

Method Man, Raekwon & Ghostface Killah "Criminology 2.5"
Method Man, Raekwon & Ghostface Killah "Criminology 2.5": We just got one of these last year, right? Thanks, Wu! I still prefer the beat of the original - I'm not too happy with the twists in the new versions, but all 3 come correct on it, even if Mef sounds like he just interpolates Rae's verse from the original. I'm on the fence. Sorry.Via 2DBz by way of Rap Radar.

J The S Meets Jake The Snake Roberts
You should've known that J The S stooed for "Jake The Snake", so its only right that J linked up with one of pro wrestling's finest ring psychologists - and one of its illest stories, Jake Roberts:

Mic Wilson "Believe"
Mic Wilson "Believe": Ah yes, Square One. Mic Wilson will be dropping this with RTD this month, March 2010. It sounds like it'll be a more personal thing from Mic, as he says "This song has been lingering in my head for the past few weeks...I can say this is my anthem at the moment...Starting at "Square One" is result of a lot of things that happen soon as 09' ended....All of that will be explained in this project....Till then...Believe".previous Mic Wilson "David Robinson (50 Bars)"

Good Biz ft. Bun B "Ya'll Can't Ball"
Good Biz ft. Bun B "Ya'll Can't Ball": I hipped you guys to the recently-released Checks & Balances EP from GDBZ a few weeks back, and now got the greenlight to fire off a track from the EP. The EP already boasts features from legends like Brother J and YZ, but this one is set off by the Under Ground King Bun B himself. Seeing as Bun is one of the leading authorities in all things "trill", when he tells you to sit down and let real ballers take the stage, I highly recommend you listen up. KP and Bobbie Fine go in as well, making this one a funked-out banger that can't be denied. Grab this cut for free, pick up the EP and keep it locked for Sound Investment, the GDBZ album that's set to drop in the Spring of 2010.Via GDBZ Music.
