Spec Boogie Specflix

Over the summer, Spec Boogie has been promoting his Summer Movie Madness project, where he was flipping samples and themes from movies into ill tracks (check the videos via Vimeo and YouTube for a better description). With his website up, he decided to release this project, rechristened Specflix, for the masses. Download now!

And watch out for his ALBUM!

[video] Rihanna "Russian Roulette"

Bonus Beats Rihanna "Mad House" [NOTE you should remember this Chase & Status-produced banger as the track that MURS sounded like ass on from that Dubstep LA mixtape, or from plenty of mixes over the year. I'm not mad at what she did to the track, but this riddim is too big to be a Pop album intro. BIG look for Chase & Status, though!

Enjoy your weekend, my people.

Quest For A Cure (12/19/2009)

I love seeing people using their talents for a good cause. Quest MCODY hit me up with this, and I'll just post the information here:

Quest for a Cure partners with Michigan Music Community to Dig Deep For Ben’s Fight Detroit, MI—December 19, 2009—On April 23, 2009 Benjamin Martin, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Glioblastoma—a cancerous brain tumor. He is eight years old.

Since being diagnosed Ben has undergone several brain surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation. He was doing well for a short time, but at the beginning of September, the tumor returned with a vengeance and is now near the brain stem. Doctors do not feel like Ben is a candidate for further surgeries, so the family is seeking alternative treatment at the Burzinski Clinic, a major international cancer center providing alternative cancer treatments. The problem? Like many stories of American medicine, Ben's insurance will not cover the “experimental” treatments, and his mother, determined to go to the ends of the earth to help her self-proclaimed superhero son fight, is making the sacrifice. With this treatment Ben’s chances of survival increase significantly. And we all deserve the best chance we can get. A fighting chance!

On December 19, 2009 a glimmer of hope will shine bright as the Quest For A Cure Foundation partners with and the Michigan music community to pack the infamous St. Andrews Hall from wall-to-wall with 1,000 fans, friends, family and patrons—to join the fight to save the life of Benjamin Martin. Proceeds will go towards helping Ben fight, in hopes that his success will increase the chance for other’s fight as well. Doors open at 9:00pm and the DJ will sound off what could go down as one of the greatest events in history. It will be a night of great music, great atmosphere and great fun for a fighting cause.

Quest for A Cure is an initiative focused on improving avenues that aid in the cure of hunger, illness and poverty—better known as H.I.P. The organization founder, Quest MCODY, will be one of the artists gracing the stage. He is known throughout the hip-hop community, and for his latest album The Light Project. He has recently been seen by millions on MTV’s Emmy award winning show MADE as a rap coach. The foundation was created from his inward desire to make a difference, save lives and to have a great time doing it.

Several of Detroit’s leading hip-hop, R&B and Rock artists will be taking the stage in support of this event. The line up will feature Quest MCODY along with artists such as Stretch Money, Invincible, PL, MonicaBlaire, Street Justice, Marvwon, K’Jon, Vina Mills, Seven The General and more.

Giving to Ben is more than a good cause. It is something that you're tied to emotionally and something that you would carry with you forever. And that is something that the world is missing. As the saying goes "keep hope alive!!" Lets do it today---in life.

General admission starts at $10 at the door. By purchasing your advance ticket using the link below you are admitted ONE guest at 1/2 off door price the day of the event.

Beanie Sigel ft. 50 Cent "I Go Off"

Beanie Sigel ft. 50 Cent "I Go Off" [clean \ dirty]: Even if Beans recycles some verses for this one, I still ride with it. Thing is, Beans doesn't really win off this one. Yes, we know he can spit - he been doing that for years. Grimey shit is nothing new to him. But he gains nothing but this. He essentially burns the Hov bridge (although you could argue that Hov did that already), but Fif is the only one to gain. He comes up with a catchy hook so we know he can do the damn thing, and he gets the last word. His signature darts at the end of the track are vintage 50, but its more about him vs. Jay than Mac vs. Jay. It's almost as if 50 had been saving these remarks until the right moment - and now he has it. Plus, this only bolsters the promo steam engine that is Before I Self Destruct...

End of the day, I just hope we get to hear a sick Sigel album soon... I'm just not sure him aligning with 50 Cent to put it out is the right move. Shouts to Miss Info for the CDQs.

Beyonce ft. Lady Gaga "Video Phone (Extended Remix)"

Beyonce ft. Lady Gaga "Video Phone (Extended Remix)": I never get into whatever the hell B is singing about, but she knows how to ride a bottom-heavy beat. Guess she's had years of practice. This is one of the hyped collabos between her and Lady Gaga, and while I'm not blown away, this one has a few ill moments, including the stabs during the breakdown. Wish they incorporated that more in the mix.

And is anyone else sick of these holiday season-ready re-releases of big albums? Put out an EP or something, damn!

Rihanna "Cold Case Love"

Rihanna "Cold Case Love" (prod. by Brian Knox): Finally got to hear another Rated R track, and damnit if YN didn't hit the nail right on the head with this one. Rather than try to perfect perfection, here's his take on the track:

This is the Justin contribution. He does his best Timbaland impersonation with a overly-produced and arranged wall of electronic sounds. She’s on a “dark and burning road”. She’s most angry here. This is the big FU CB tune. “What you did to me wasn’t right?” Now that’s an understatement. “We lost in love”. Quality lyrics but too damn long.

DOA Mix: Emalkay

While Dogs On Acid is known primarily as a haven for DnB lovers, over the last couple of years, dubstep has been getting love - whether its purchased in the DOA Downloads shop, discussed on The Board or in the news - cats like Chase & Status, Breakage, Nero and others dabble in both sounds, and get props for it. We've never done a balls-out feature on dubstep though, especially with a mix, so when the opportunity to interview and distribute a mix from Emalkay came along, I was all for it. I've been a fan of his tunes, including the recently-released "When I Look At You", and was interested to know a bit more about him. All of that was accomplished in this feature. Let me know what you think - should there be more dubstep on Dogs On Acid?

File under WTF:

Ol Dirty Bastard "Say NO"

Ol' Dirty Bastard "Say NO": God rest the dead, but an anti-drug track from ODB from the grave just seems ill-advised. This is taken from Message To The Other Side: Osirus Pt. 1. This album features many Clan members (RZA, Method Man and Masta Killa) as well as heads like J-Love and Thirstin Howl III, and will feature a 20-minute clip of the "rapumentary" (the fuck?) Dirty, which is about Dirt Dog. You can pick this up on November 17th, but something about the whole thing just doesn't sit well with me...

EDIT And I'm guessing Streetlife and Mathematics didn't get this leak, eh?

Diamond District "Make It Clear (Remix)"

Diamond District "Make It Clear (Getcha Break On Remix)" (prod. by SlimKat78): This sounds like some shit my mom wouldn't get mad at me rockin' to at a cookout, about 2 (or 3) glasses of Long Island Iced Tea's deep. Has a very bouncy, Saturday night dusty club feel. Nice work.

The instrumentals for In The Ruff are available now on iTunes.

Skit Slam "I'm Free"

Skit Slam "I'm Free" (prod. by Abnormal): Taking time out from flooding the marketplace with his own heatrocks, Cymarshall Law hit me with a track from his brother Skit Slam's solo EP, which should be out soon. For those of you who don't know, Cy x Skit = Everliven Sound. Get familiar.
