No boombox this week, just the Black Hand...

Wow. They had an hour of Q-Tip-related joints on VH1 Soul yesterday. This was never my fav Tribe track, but I always loved the video:

A Tribe Called Quest "Oh My God"

Go grab a 40 of something and spread the joy this weekend. Holla.

Featuring Kanye West & T-Pain:

[video] Rihanna Faints During Sydney Concert...

...or at least that's what Just Jared is reporting. This video was taken from a performance of "Umbrella", and towards the end you see Rihanna looking like she is going to fall over but then walks all the way out of sight. I imagine she's been on tour like crazy for the better part of 2008. Get well soon, ma.

Here's a clip from a Los Angeles news station on Election Night, where the reported smelled something at one Obama for America celebration:

[video] J-Zone & Chief Chinchilla "Can I Get A Sip?"

I wanna shout out my nigga, JunClassic, for connecting me with J-Zone. I feel like such a fanboy when I get out-the-blue e-mails from cats who have made albums that I thoroughly enjoyed for years. J-Zone's J-Zone presents... Chief Chinchilla: Live @ The Liqua Sto LP, which is both an homage and a satire on malt-liquor adverts on urban cities (remember that Philly/Colt 45 graf fiasco from this summer? how about those classic St. Ides commercials?). I must say, it's that classic Zone that you've grown to love... or despise. Peep the video for "Can I Get A Sip?":

This is the final piece of J-Zone's four-part trailer for this amazing album (which you can cop via Chief Chinchilla's MySpace page RIGHT NOW); check out Parts 1, 2 and 3 as well.

Old Maid/Fuck PETA in the house. Watch out for more Zone-related shit in the comming months. And make sure you niggas are keep up with Zone's Gator$-N-Fur$ podcast, which can be downloaded over at UGHH.

[video] Kanye West "Heartless"

This is noted as being the "animated version", so are we to assume there's another version coming, or is that just WSHH on some forward-thinking shit?:

Bonus Beats Eskay posted up the following videos of Kanye West at the MTV Europe VMA's:

I See Gwyneth's Underwear

I've seen females get mad because their bra strap was showing. I've seen chicks who get hot when their panties are seen through a sheer pair of white pants. Never have I seen a dress that was specifically made to showcase whatever undergarments you are rocking, and then see a female wear some basic white jawns underneath it. What sense does this make?

Richard Raw "Change"

Richard Raw "Change": Here's a ditty from Richard Raw's Word 2 The Wize LP, which drops Jan. 15th, 2009. I love jawns like this, because many don't realize that, while the feat that occured on November 4th is historical, the change doesn't just start in the White House... we have to flip shit ourselves, internally.

Bonus Beats Common "Changes" [via Nah Right]

BGDB Presents Nov. 4th: Yes We Did

I don't know if you can call this a mix; its more like a tribute to the trek Obama has been on since the nation caught wind of his eloquence at the 2004 DNC. Loads of Hip-Hop, but also a good dose of his dynamic speeches. Grab this one, dust off the next three hours (E went IN) and rejoice.

Beyonce "Diva"

Beyonce "Diva" (prod. by Bangladesh): This is what happens when a producer blows up off one beat and then is asked by everyone to recreate it. Beyonce gets on that "Sasha Fierce" shit, and while I am not mad at her on this one, definitely comes off as some bandwagon-jumping ish.

Big up to Benzi and the DDS for this one.

[video] Soulja Boy Votes

Even though the nigga said some wild remedial shit recently, he took the time to go vote. Props to him:

[video] Jadakiss ft. Ne-Yo "By My Side"

[video] Roc-A-Fella Freestyle, Pt. 1: "Who Shot Ya?"

This is such classic material, I'm glad Cipha Sounds unearthed these tapes. Circa 2001, The Roc-A-Fella family took over Hot 97 and blew the airwaves up with a host of freestyle fury. Check out part one, with Bleek, Beans and others going for theirs over "Who Shot Ya?":

[video] Uriela Votes

My girl Uri, who does ill design work and has been a friend for something like 8 years, posted this video of her voting experience in 2008:

[video] Heltah Skeltah "The Art of Disrespekinazation" (LIVE)

Shouts to Dallas for upping this, and layering the album cut over the video. This is my fav cut off the CD, and one of my fav jawns of 2008.

Mikkey Halsted "Betta Than This"

Mikkey Halsted "Betta Than This": One of Chicago's next to blow, Halsted speaks from within a city that is set to erupt if Obama takes it. Make sure you hit those voting booths!

Via FSD.

Personify "Vote & Die (Choose To Lose)"

Personify ft. Expo "Vote & Die (Choose To Lose)" (prod. by Mind Design): Judging by the title of this track, I really shouldn't have to tell you what it contains. I had been waiting to see if anyone was going to drop a track like this, bringing you sort of the underbelly of what people don't really talk about, but mad heads do think. Now, I feel like I need to vote. My shit counts. And I'm of the mind that I will at least vote for the lesser of two evils, and try to open some more doors. If you don't feel like voting, that's what's up. Do you, fam. I don't agree with you, but I understand. Expo goes a bit deeper with verse 2, BTW, and while I am intrigued, I can't endorse not voting.

I'm of a mind to agree with the homey Dallas Penn, but you know how that goes.

Shouts to Expo for shooting this to me.

Doc Oct "Hit Tha Block"

Doc Oct "Hit Tha Block" (prod. by Cookin' Soul): Shouts to DJ Chew for lacing me with this up-tempo banger from South Carolina MC Doc Oct and Cookin' Soul. I could see this going off at basketball games and shit, really hype cut.

Nas & DJ Green Lantern "Election Night" (mirror): Thats Hip-Hop blasted this one out; the id3 says that it was recorded today. Nas drops some fresh lyrics about one of the most historical days, ever, over the "Black President" drums. Epic.

Change the world.

Git Beats ft. Ladybug Mecca "America"

Git Beats ft. Ladybug Mecca "America": First things first; I crushed on Ladybug back in the day for her short hair and that butter-smooth voice. Then I got into her rhymes, and was hooked. For me, before Jean Grae, there was Ladybug. She flips over this hypnotic Git Beats cut to speak on the American Dream, and kicks that real talk.

This is from Git's Say Cheeze!, which features cats like Raekwon, Prince Po, Rock and more, and drops in Jan. 2008.

[video] Jabari & Articulate: Voting Virgins

That is crazy, that a lot of Black people's first time voting is for a Black man. All power to the people.

[video] Kenny Lattimore "You Are My Starship"

[video] Cymarshall Law's Special Day

Go vote, cop Hip Hop In The Soul on iTunes or through Cy's MySpace, and make a difference:

Yo Cy, go get that cough looked at, homey.

Black Moon vs. Skream "How Many MC's (DJ Nappy THUGSTEP Refix)":I forgot to drop this on Saturday, although last week I tried to remind myself to do it. In any case, I dedicate to a certain "Mc" out there that truly needs to get dissed, especially on today of all days. You think dubstep and that classic NY Hip-Hop don't work together? Skream's booms accentuate Buckshot's fierce darts on the real. Jeep heat for the streets. GO VOTE!

DJ Nappy lives.

Sky 7th "The Ballot"

Sky 7th "The Ballot": Just got passed this cut from Sky 7th's forthcoming Trouble Man LP. The OH10 is up on it, but the question is, are you?

I just wanted to say, I was really proud of my community for coming out. I thought I was jumping the gun by getting my vote in right at 6AM. Nah, the line was almost out the door. Lots of faces, Black faces, and a ton of voting virgins out there. Really beautiful, and while no one was screaming OBAMA!, we definitely smelled the CHANGE in the air. We need to change this government, and if Barack can't do it, I don't know who can.

Shouts to Nathan for the heads up.

"Onslaught" Live-Blog

A few things happened since I live-blogged Joe Budden's "Slaughterhouse" track: Jumpoff, Crooked I, Joell Ortiz & Royce Da 5'9 are now a crew called Slaughterhouse, and they've leaked a new cut, entitled "Onslaught". I figured, why not try and live-blog my first listen of this one?

-0:00: Before I get this going, I'm glad Nino Bless isn't on this. Dude is fresh, but he's not really up with these guys...

00:06: Frequency came correct with this beat. Nothing too boisterous, just enough to let them coast over it, effortlessly.

00:19: Damn, Royce is sounding good. I wasn't really into Bar Exam 2, but what can you do.

00:51: "Lil' Wayne's migraine"? I mean, don't put him on that plateau, NickelNine.

01:32: Joe Budden sounds MUCH better on this track.

01:55: So far, this track isn't as hard-hitting, punchline-wise as "Slaughterhouse", but it ultimately flows a lot smoother.

03:03: Maybe I spoke too soon. Crooked I is beasting this right now.

03:20: Why do they keep bringing up Jay-Z? Is it that deep? The only way niggas got past comparing themselves to Biggie was to... wait for it... stop comparing themselves to Biggie.

04:01: ...and once I say that, he mentions 2Pac.

04:21: "got every dot-com in my pocket, and I don't know how to work computers"!??! Ortiz is grimey.

05:00: Rapping about rapping is fun when its done by cats like J-O-E-DOUBLE. Sad thing is, most cats won't let just one hot nigga stay in that lane.

OK, so my thoughts: Ortiz > Budden > Crooked I > Royce. Just how I see it. I love this crew, though. How you seeing it?

Tanya Morgan ft. Torae & Supastition "Shake It Off (AEON Remix)"

Tanya Morgan ft. Torae & Supastition "Shake It Off (AEON Remix)": Apparently this has been brimming under the radar, but its news to me. AEON back with another banger, this time in official remix form. Too tough. You should also make sure you peep Elucid's "Automatic Writing", which was also produced by AEON, and was featured on Elucid's Police & Thieves mixtape.

Am I one step ahead of the Urb Next 1000? Who knows.

Keep 'em coming, Theo.

Praverb "A Blogger's Dream"

Praverb "A Blogger's Dream" (mirror): P Viz drops some interesting rhymes over some White Van Music for a contest, and ended up speaking on XXL's Freshmen 10 piece. He goes into detail about it here...

"This track was conceived due to my disapproval with the XXL Freshmen 10 article (Mickey, Blu, Wale, B.o.B, and Cory Gunz are definitely dope), I believe that XXL could have highlighted more deserving emcees (Skyzoo, Donny Goines, Drake, Shad K., Elzhi, Joell Ortiz, Joe Budden, Fashawn, Sha Stimuli, Wiz Khalifa, Torae, AC, Reks, Termanology, Nametag, Joe Budden, Pacific Division, and many more). I was fumbling with the idea for about a month and the article is all I needed to pen the lyrics. In the second verse I make a statment NOT a diss towards Asher Roth. The statment suggests if Asher Roth is better than Stimuli and my response is heck no. Asher is a talented emcee who has a lot of potential (he is also not afraid to reveal his background) but Stimuli is a better emcee than Asher and should have been featured over Mr. Roth (in my eyes). Sometimes marketability is the thing that saves or makes an artist more visible than the next. When I wrote the song I did not focus on winning the contest per say but instead I focused on crafting a nice song. Hopefully you will like it as much as I do..."

Keep it real, Praverb. Tell 'em how you feel. I'm definitely feeling that.

P.A. Rhythmicism Blvd EP

[video] Q-Tip "Go New York"

Justin Timberlake "Magic"

Justin Timberlake "Magic" (prod. by Stargate): I've been a fan of Timberlake's since Justified, so anytime I see some new tracks from him, I'm always intrigued. This one is undeniable, has that back to the future funk about it. I been on this kick where I wanna dance... while sitting down. If I'm sitting in a chair or in the backseat of someone's car, and my jam comes on, I'm all arms moving, bobbin' my head, just straight ROCKIN' to the shit. On the dancefloor? Same ol' two-step. But in any case, peep this one. Note to JT: could you do a full length album of tracks like this with Stargate, as opposed to going waaaaaaay left with Timbaland? Thanks.

Mr. Scruff Ninja Tuna Mixtape

One of the things I miss about a) having disposable income and b) going record shopping at PREX is the fact that I sometimes miss out on new product from artists I don't normally check for, but love. I'd scour their "electronica" section, where they put everything from Goldie to Coldcut, looking for new shit, and discovering imports or CDs I hadn't noticed when they dropped. That's how I initially discovered Mr. Scruff, and to now hear that his Ninja Tuna album (which features Danny Breaks and Roots Manuva) is out, I'm mad that I had no idea dude was working on new material. In any case, here's a mixtape I just spotted. Dude is a dope DJ, so don't sleep at ALL...

Daweh Congo ‘Iration’ (Charm)
Mr Scruff ‘Whiplash’ (Ninja Tuna)
Mr Scruff ‘Test The Sound’ (Ninja Tuna)
NYGZ ‘Legendary pt1’ (Year Round)
Roots Manuva ‘Kick Up Ya Foot’ (Big Dada)
Mr Scruff & Danny breaks ‘Bang The Floor’ (Ninja Tuna)
45 King vs Wale ‘Roof’ (Scion)
A Tribe Called Quest ‘Buggin Out’ (Jive)
Johnny Jones ‘It’s Gonna Be Good’ (Brunswick)
Merry Clayton ‘Good Girls’ (Ode)
Rance Allen ‘Peace of Mind’ (Stateside)
Incognito ‘Out of The Storm (Carl Craig Remix)’ (Talkin’ Loud)
Vester ‘You Got The Power’ (Blake)
Herbie Hancock ‘Wiggle Waggle (Mr Scruff Remix)’ (Verve)
Kokomo ‘Use Your Imagination (Rahaan Edit)’ (Kat)

Smoke something and enjoy. Via The Fader.

Biggie Smalls "Party & Bullshit (DJ Cable Blend)"

Biggie Smalls "Party & Bullshit (DJ Cable Blend)": During DJ Cable's Weekly Mix #35, he dropped this blend, updating one of Biggie's classic bangers over Ja Rule's "Clap Back". I had asked for it instantly, and I guess I wasn't alone, as he has noted that a lot of heads were trying to get this.

Lauren London x 90210

YBF reports that Lauren London is set to be the love-interest for Tristan Wilds' character on 90210. Now, I've never watched the show, but when I first saw her in ATL, it made me not only sit through that microwave melodrama, but I can't stop watching it whenever its on. I might have to DVR a few of her eps and see how it rolls...
