Benny Page "Turn Down The Lights"

Benny Page "Turn Down The Lights": I just had a shot of Jose Cuervo, and I'm feelin' all warm inside. When I get like this, there's nothing like DnB that gets me open. The sample in this one always gets me. Just a BIG SOUN'! I'm gettin' my ja-fake-in' on, y'all. Word to Enigmatik.

Bonus Beats: Soundclash "Crying Out"

John Legend "Can't Be My Lover"

John Legend "Can't Be My Lover": Here's a bonus track from John Legend's Evolver, which is set to drop on October 28th. The other bonus is a Teddy Riley remix of "It's Over". Rockin' my "Make Dub, Not War" t-shirt, this is just what I need right now!

Articulate "White Van Music": One of Bmore's most talented flips a bunch of instrumentals from Jake One's White Van Music album, and it's dope. If you like fly flows and ill beats, this is right up your alley. Check out a forthcoming Stones Throw night in Bmore that Artic is performing at...

Happy Birthday To Me

I'm 27 years young today, and I feel good. Had a great night last night (thanks, wifey), and plan on chilling today. Cracking a 40 of OE as we speak. Will be dropping some things today. Thanks to everyone who continuously hits the site. Working on a few projects, expanding the brand. Walk with me...

Seel Fresh "Keep It Moving"

Seel Fresh "Keep It Moving": You've seen the video, now here's the audio. Dude keeps it right - you gotta keep it moving if you're trying to attain any goal. He speaks on a lot in this 2 minute, 47 second track, so keep your ears wide open.

Friday, October 10th 2008 playlist

Totally scheduled this on the 9th of October, because I'm out of the office/house/area right now, spending some quality time with my wifey. I'll be touching down on the 11th, aka my birthday, and hopefully I'll be caught up by the end of the weekend. I highly doubt it, though. Enjoy this one, though...

I was thinking about the old CDs I bought, in speaking to Enigmatik, and thought on when I copped Enter The Wu-Tang: 36 Chambers. Rainy afternoon, running across overpasses to hit the Quakerbridge Mall and pick up history. Still have my dirty copy in my basement. Classic Hip-Hop, fam:

Wu-Tang Clan "Da Mystery Of Chessboxin'"

Stay up, and enjoy your weekend, peeps. I'm going to try and cool out. One.

[video] Grafh "Bring The Goons Out"

I hit you with the CDQ/No DJ audio, now here's the video (thanks again to Cookin' Soul for the heads up):

BGDB + RTD Present The U.M.N. Album, Part 2

Back in August, I hit you with Enigmatik's mix from our The U.M.N. Album series. For some reason, it took me a while to get back on my bizness and finish this mix (hell, rock the dub radio 026 has been delayed as well), and I think it my part came out ill as well. E took a lot of good "nigga" tracks, but I still had enough to make due. Check it out...

01/rock the dub intro "a nigga moment"
02/David Banner "B.A.N. (The Love Song)"
03/M.O.P. "Niggggaaaah"
04/Sheek Louch ft. Ghostface Killah "Movie Niggas"
05/Jay-Z ft. Young Chris "Nigga Please"
06/interlude: King Geedorah "One Smart Nigger"
07/2Pac "Strictly 4 My Niggaz"
08/N.W.A. "Real Niggaz Don't Die"
09/Nas "Nigger Hatred"
10/Gorilla Zoe vs. M.I.A. "Hood Nigga Paper Planes (DJ Neoteric Blend)"
11/Lox "Felony Niggas"
12/Ray Cash ft. Bun B & Pastor Troy "Pussy Ass Niggas"
13/interlude: Muja Messiah "Niggativity Skit"
14/Lil' Jon & The Eastside Boyz ft. Ice Cube "Real Nigga Roll Call"
15/Nas ft. Mobb Deep "Live Nigga Rap"
16/M.O.P. "Fly Nigga Hillfigga"
17/Rhymefest "Real Nigga Quotes"
18/Nas "Be A Nigger Too"
19/rock the dub outro: "the s word"

This mix got me going through some of my old mixes. Might have to resurrect my Dub Sessions, but with rock the dub radio and what not, who knows how long before I get a good one. In any case, this mix is strictly 4 my niggaz. You gotta problem wit' that?!?!?!

[video] Kanye West "Love Lockdown" LIVE On Ellen

The Real Shawty Lo

This should be proof positive about how remedial some of today's rap tracks are, when a lil' ass kid can sit here and go line for line with bullshit like "Dey Know":

[video] DivaSpeakTV: Episode 30

Fresh Don Cannon Bangers

Don Cannon is one of my favorite producers of the modern era. Dude just has those gritty tracks, stacked with dope samples and neck-snappin' beats. Two of my peers have posted two leaks that he produced, and I'm here at the j-o, wylin' out, so let me make sure you niggas are put on to these:

I see that The Studio Rats posted both of these, so props to them as well. Talk about two different sides of the same head-noddin' coin.

Noz x Kool Keith

Noz had the opportunity to interview one of my favorite MCs, Kool Keith, for HipHopDX, and this interview is the greatest thing I've read all week. He speaks on erasing history, breeding, and going to the mall. It's classic. You need not sleep.

previous: DJ Spooky ft. Kool Keith "Riddim Warfare"

Wordsmith "Park & Ride: The Sunset Edition"

Wordsmith "Park & Ride: The Sunset Edition" (prod. by Strada): I hit you guys with the video for this on Monday, and just got the audio for this massive track in my inbox. This is to be the first single from Vintage Material, Words' 2009 LP; expect to see about 4-5 more videos/singles from this project, as Wordsmith gets his situation sorted.

Words is going to be busy in 2009, as he plans on putting out an album with Chubb Rock (Bridging The Gap) and A Baltimore Martini with Inc The Poet from the UK. Be on the lookout for those, rock the dub should have a lot of this shit first. You know the score.

Praverb "Blessed With The Gift"

Praverb "Blessed With The Gift" (prod. by Teddy Roxpin): P-Viz is back in the studio, and shared one of the fruits of a long recording session. Battle raps meets his prominent spiritual lines, with a host of Sports-related references... over a lush beat. I guess dude has Sportscenter on while thumbing through The Bible. Whatever he's doing, keep doing it!

DOA Mix: The Qemists

New mix over at the plantation, featuring Ninja Tune's DnB outfit, The Qemists.

01. Chase & Status ft. Plan B ''Pieces'' (Ram)
02. The Qemists ''Stompbox (Spor Remix)'' (Ninja Tune)
03. (tease) High Contrast ''If We Ever'' (Hospital)
04. Noisia ''Diplodocus'' (Quarantine)
05. Spor ''Stoppit'' (Lifted Dub)
06. Apex ''Nowhere To Run'' (Lifted)
07. Prolix ''Twisted Angel'' (Ganja-Tek)
08. Vent ''Silicon Age'' (Colony)

15. DC Breaks ''Mankind'' (Viper)

17. J Majik & Wickerman ''Crazy World (Brookes Brothers Remix)'' (Data)
18. Fresh ''Gold Dust'' (BBK)
19. (tease) Baron ''Turn Up The Sun'' (BBK)

25. Chase & Status ''Eastern Jam'' (Ram)
26. Riskotheque ''Monster'' (Dub)
27. High Rankin ''Escape From The Hood'' (League Of The Shamed)
28. The Qemists ft. Wiley ''Dem Na Like Me (Riskotheque Remix)'' (Ninja Tune Dub)
29. Rage Against The Machine ''Killing The Name Of (SebastiAn Remix)'' (?)

I actually really like the mix, or the majority of it. I was asked to note that this mix was done in August of 2008, but due to scheduling conflicts (i.e. this mix being sent to me the day I put up last month's DJ Cabbie mix), it had to get held off for another month. Sue me for being productive.

Japanese Motors "Spendin' Days"

Japanese Motors "Spendin' Days": Back in high school, when I wasn't fucking with Hip-Hop, IDM and DnB, I would chill with my punk and alt-rock friends, listening to the Dead Kennedys, Kill Rock Stars compilations and all of that. I miss those days, sometimes. This track from Japanese Motors' self-titled debut album (which came out yesterday) reminds me of that sound, just that carefree, vibin' rock that's perfect for the headphones as well as for a warm afternoon drive, causing minor destruction to mailboxes and rich pedestrians.

Fun times.

J. Slikk Separation Anxiety

So J. Slikk is at it again. I imagine a lot of you slept on the SLIKKstrumental beat tape from this past summer. For the Fall, Slikk has a whole new batch of beats, but instead of stringing them into one 24 minute MP3, in a lesser quality, he's hit you with a batch of joints in full length, CDQ and all raw. I had this instrumental LP on during my commute to work today, and there's a lot of autumnal funk and soul stitched into these tracks. For you MCs, definitely take advantage of this one, and get at J for some heat - you won't be disappointed! And for those who just crave good Hip-Hop, throw this one on the headphones, pull that hoodie over your head and just take in the change of the seasons.

File under instrumental Hip-Hop, somewhere around the DJ Krush and DJ Cam sections.

50 Cent "Get Up"

50 Cent "Get Up" (prod. by Scott Storch): So instead of going out on a high note, 50 wants to go out sounding like a Tony Yayo b-side. Word is this is off of Before I Self Destruct. If he was smart he'd leave it off of Before I Self Destruct, ya dig?

"Fortunate" is my wife and I's song. That's our jam. Good to see Maxwell returning to the studio:

I wonder when Black Summer's Night drops?

Kid Sister "Pro Nails (Rusko Remix)"

Kid Sister "Pro Nails (Rusko Remix)": No nonsense dubstep funk on this one. This is part of Scion CD Vol. 22, which is a compilation of remixes from the Fool's Gold catalogue (the mixtape for this will be done up by the one like Nick Catchdubs). Other remixes feature originals from Treasure Fingers, Kid Cudi, Trackademicks and others, with remix work from Chromeo, Surkin, Blu Jewz and many more! IHEARTCOMIX has put up 7 of the tracks (check part 1 and part 2), and I figured I'd throw up my favorite of this lot.

Bonus Beats: Treasure Fingers "Cross The Dancefloor (Chromeo Remix)"

DJ Spooky ft. Kool Keith "Riddim Warfare"

DJ Spooky ft. Kool Keith "Riddim Warfare": Taken from DJ Spooky's sophmore LP, 1998's Riddim Warfare, this Hip-Hop/DnB hybrid sound is what I like to hear when someone questions what next level should sound like. This stems from a convo Elucid and I had regarding the idea that 808's & Heartbreak will be Kanye West's Electric Circus. Why can't Hip-Hop heads throw their multi-genre love into the mix without turning into that shit? Why can't Kanye use 808's, Auto-Tune and all and, instead of doing piss-poor singing, flip his lyrical braggadacio over it? Why does Common have to become a hippie to show you that he is diverse? Is it not cool to still be the same cat who rocks saggy pants and doo rags, but rock to Chromeo or MGMT, or Pink Floyd for that matter? Why does the sheep mentality mean cats have to switch their whole style up just to follow another style?

Spooky, Keith - I commend you two brothers for keeping it true, keeping it right and keeping it fresh, always.

[video] Kanye West "Love Lockdown"

Shouts to Enigmatik for letting me know that TSS has recorded this Ellen exclusive.

Now, not only do I not feel the song, but I am not feeling the pseudo-art of the video.

EDIT: Updated video from WSHH. Hopefully this link will stay up.

[video] De La Soul @ VH1 Hip-Hop Honors 2008

Pretty crappy recording, but whatever:

[video] Pussycat Dolls "Whatcha Think About That"

Featuring Missy Elliot:

Colin Munroe "Will I Stay"

Colin Munroe "Will I Stay": This track has a nice bop to it, and is written and produced by dude himself. Make sure you keep it locked, as a remix of this cut will be dropping in the coming weeks. Colin's Don't Think Less Of Me LP drops in 2009. Check out the video HERE.

Shouts to Andrew Kennedy for the heads up!

Grafh "Bring The Goons Out" [CDQ / No DJ]

Grafh "Bring The Goons Out" (prod. by Cookin' Soul) [CDQ / No DJ]: CS is continuing the fire assault, this time with a CDQ/No DJ offering from Grafh's latest mixtape with Green Lantern (The Oracle Pt. 2), letting Grafh express his goon mentality over a marching beat. Effortless.

William Roberts Comes Clean

Well look who decided to tell the truth. William Roberts, the rapper you niggas know as Rick Ross, has finally admitted what The Smoking Gun has already proven, that he was in fact a Correctional Officer back in the day. Was that so hard, you dumb nigga? He spoke on using his real name and them having his Social Security #, so I imagine he read my blog and realized I was right.

It's too little, too late, as there's a new Rick Ross in town, anyways.

Shouts to Enigmatik for the heads up.

[video] GLC "I Ain't Even On Yet" Teaser

This will be dropping on 10/10/2008, but Andrew drops the teaser now. Not only will October 10th be the one year anniversary of FSD (congrats), it's also a day before my birthday. Holla.

D.Julien "Understand Me"

D.Julien "Understand Me" (prod. by Teddy Roxpin): Wow. Here's an experiment "for the bloggers" that D. Julien concocted over a fresh Teddy Rox beat. I don't know how I feel about being a guinea pig in his experimentation, but this is some heat, undeniable. I hope homey hits me with more fire like this. Or maybe I should take a listen to his Let Me Introduce Myself mixtape.

[video] Wordsmith "Park & Ride (The Sunset Edition)"

I leaked both the original and the "After Hours" versions, and now Wordsmith (with G-Light Films) drops the video for "The Sunset Edition", which will be featured on his album, Vintage Material, which is set to drop in 2009:

Word is Bar Exam II will be dropping in retail outlets in November 2008 via Traffic Entertainment, featuring all original production, and is to be followed by his street album (Street Hop) and a collaborative effort with Elzhi!

Shouts to Dub MD for this one.

Junclassic 2 Much Ain't Enuff

My homey Junclassic just hit me with some info that should make you fans of the Monster Island Czars very happy. If you didn't purchase 2 Much Ain't Enuff, dude has been gracious enough to give this LP away... for free! I actually dropped the title track on rock the dub radio a while back, and that's how Jun and I got to know each other. Now, he has a bunch of shit he's working on, including his next album, Overqualified, which drops on October 21st on Classified Recordings. I also know of some FIRE that he's working on that I don't think I can speak on at this time, but keep it locked.

Kanye West "Love Lockdown (D Sharp Remix)"

Kanye West "Love Lockdown (D Sharp Remix)": DJ D Sharp is at it again; he hit you with Gangster Donuts, now check out his electro-infused flip of "Love Lockdown". You gotta love how he goes from the slower tempo and then funks it up with the percussion, then back to the half-time speed. One of my favorite reworks of this seminal late 2008 anthem.

Bonus Beats: Kanye West "Love Lockdown (R.O.E. Remix)"

previous: 6th Sense "Love Lockdown" \ Kanye West "Love Lockdown (J. Slikk Remix)"

The Gent$ "Supper Time"

[video] SNL: Biden vs. Palin Debate

I actually watched this live, cracked me up:

[video] Kimbo Slice vs. Seth Petruzelli

I call bullshit on this, only because Ken Shamrock randomly can't fight, and they start with all of this "oh it could be a Rocky story tonight", and of course Kimbo gets stunned by one shot and this cat Seth just hits him until they call it:

Total bullshit. What's worse is at the end, Kimbo's just like shouting out all the companies and is like "the after party is still going down". SMH.
