JunClassic "MySpace Sensitivity"

JunClassic "MySpace Sensitivity": Jun's Overqualified dropped on iTunes and in numerous mom&pop shops over the country on October 21st. Entertainment Weekly also gave it a "B", and RTD gives it an A, even though I haven't sat down to knock out a review. Jun is a dope rhymer, and while his sounds might be a bit left of centre, its him, and needs to be heard. COP DAT!

[video] Arab's "Arab Money (Remix)" Verse

Here's Soulja Boy and Arab (aka Latarian Milton's theme music) in the studio, wilding out to Arab's verse on the remix to Busta Rhymes' "Arab Money":

You can catch Soulja Boy and Arab on Cipha Sounds & Rosenberg from last week, as well as Soulja Boy on the Juan Epstein podcast. Or you could do something a LOT better with your time. I just figured, it's Halloween, let the freaks come out!

Ghostface Killah "Computer Love"

Ghostface Killah "Computer Love": There are a few things about Ghost Deini that I have always dug about his style: he is one of the most soulful MCs out there. He sounds ill as fuck over those classic jams your mother would play during those cookouts, when niggas was busting spades and sipping on E&J, while you and your cousins were cussin' under your breath and sneaking chicken wings. And, Tony Starks don't give a fuck - he will merk a track, and not just like loop a bit of it - he will merk the original and STILL make it sound hot.

The-Dream "Let Me See That Booty"

The-Dream ft. Lil' Jon "Let Me See That Booty": Here's a clean version of The-Dream's new single; I've read that this is produced by Tricky Stewart, although it sounds like a Lil' Jon production, and the Wikipedia page for Love vs. Money says it's produced by Lil' Jon, so can someone confirm this? Love vs. Money is set to drop in December 2008.

"Soulcakes" (Oct. 2008)

I was going to make this as a CD for an outing this weekend with wifey, my mom and her boyfriend, but it fleshed out into a new Dub Session. Brittany Bosco "Glitch"

Brittany Bosco "Glitch": Talk about being blown away. Every morning I go to work, I catch up on the inbox and either dump or pump the new music I have been sent. This morning a sequence of words stuck out of this blast: "the future of electro experimental soul music". These were Karen Knox's words, describing Brittany Bosco, a new artist (and one of URB's Next 1000) who has completed a serious body of work, Spectrum EP. I've included one of the tracks that I think embodies "electro experimental soul music". It's as if Janelle Monae, Chrisette Michele, Etta James and Santogold were blended into one down ass chick. Homegirl has a great voice, and really knows how to use her voice - she goes from those calmer, seductive tones to hitting some really far-out notes, seemingly at will. Again, talk about being blown away.

Word is homegirl is going to be at SOB's soon?

Can't Noc The Hustle V.2: KnowxOne's Business

Dropping soon. Keep it locked to KNOWxONE's spot for more details.

EDIT And here it is (and here's a mirror).

It's finally here! After many months of preparation and collecting various tracks, tweaking the mix, switching up the tracklist and getting drops - it's all finally come together. The first ever, official KNOWxONE mixtape. I got together with my boys from Nocturnal Sound Krew whom have 2 back to back ITF World Championships under their belt because we did not want to put out a half-assed product. With all the mixtapes that are coming out everyday which are more or less on the mediocre side of things, we wanted to bring you back to the essence of the DJ - keeping it 100% Hip-Hop. We didn't go too overboard with the cuts & scratches, but it's subtly there. It's the little, smaller details that we hope you will notice & appreciate. Clocking in at just under 50 minutes, this mix takes you on a journey through some of the dopest songs that got it's swag on a 100,000 trillion, which have been gaining notoriety in the blogging community, as well as a few rarer tracks & exclusives. This is a first in a monthly series we will be pushing, so this is just the beginning. I hope you all enjoy this mix for what it's worth. If you need a re-up on any of the links, please email me and I will get another one up ASAP. This mixtape will also be available at in4mation, Fitted Hawaii, Kicks Hawaii and Dig Lifestyles - all streetwear stores in Hawaii. Please let me know if you'd like a hardcopy and I'll get one out to you. Thanks for peeping this and we appreciate any and all support we can get from you guys.

Enjoy.

Anyways, when he touches down, I dream of DJing his welcome home party. I drop this as everyone raises their glasses up, and then pull that shit back mid-verse. He'll smile, then I'll re-drop it.

If that really happens, don't say khal told you so. Just be like "that nigga seen the future".

"Beer Before Liquor" (Oct. 2008)

I've seriously cut down on my drinking. While I used to be downing Heinekens everyday after work for the better part of 3 years, I'm now more of a weekend drinker, with MAYBE a glass of wine one weeknight. And even when I do drink, its mostly a 40 of OE or something. Anyways, a few years back, in an Olde English-haze, I discovered dubstep from that infamous Dubstep Wars set from Mary Anne Hobbs' show, and was hooked, primarily b/c its an extension of the classic Dub sounds I know and love. I don't know if its BECAUSE of the malt liquor or not, but something about Dubstep and beer always does me right.

Now, I've also promised a return to the Dub Sessions series I haven't touched on since Sept. 2007; to be honest, I've done mixes, including like 3 Dubstep mixes, but haven't been happy with them. I'd been wanting to do more actual "mixing", and I think doing those mixes helped me. Here's the first of the Dubstep mixes I am putting out, spanning a host of tunes I've loved from the last year+. I'm happy with how this one came out, but I didn't get to fit in some dubs that I've gotten... so I have to do another one. That one might get a bit weirder...

"Liquor before beer, you're in the clear. Beer before liquor, never been sicker!"

Jasmine Ray "For Life"

Jasmine Ray "For Life": I wasn't going to post this generic, marching drums Pop track, but then I happened upon homegirl's MySpace page and saw the above pic. With pics like that, I'll post anything with her name on it.

Shouts to BoBO.

See ya later, HBO

I've had a TV in my bedroom since '86, '87. Yeah, I was kind of young, but my mom wanted to make sure I had NES to my self (thanks, mom). Anyways, ever since I was a lil' yout, I watched a shitload of TV, and saw many a movie on Home Box Office (a station that originated out of NJ). This weekend, due in part to this lovely recession that's going on, I ended up deciding to get rid of the "Silver Package" that Cablevision offers, which included losing all of my HBO (and HBO-affiliated) channels. No more HBO On Demand, either.

I'm not terribly upset, for I really only watched shit like The Sopranos, OZ and Curb Your Enthusiasm On Demand, anyways. It's a big chunk of my life, though - I swore by HBO, back when Prism and Showtime still had good programming, I stayed true to HBO. From the hilarious comedy specials to groundbreaking documentaries, and the emergence of the Cable TV Drama, I road until the wheels fell off.

I won't miss HBO, unless a new program starts up. But it feels weird as fuck.

Just Jeryl - Electro 'N Stuff Mini Mix (Oct. 2008)

Jeryl is one of the first cats to ever give me a chance in terms of writing about DnB, and he's grown into a true friend. If it wasn't for him, I'd not be the Editor over at Dogs On Acid. Nor would my label idea be a serious thing (shouts to Nu Urban by the way). I'd say I'm forever in debt to him, but he'd just laugh it off and tell me to keep doing what I'm doing. Anyways, here's a mini mix he did, mostly of Electro bizness (he's been bitten by the bug).
