Joe Budden Caught An Eye Jammy?

Spotted over on Rap Radar. So the Budden/Meth shit comes to a head around the time Blackout 2 drops, and Budden catches a two-piece (no Popeye's - no pun intended) before Slaughterhouse officially drops? Hmmm...

Deal - The Villain "Dancin'"

Deal The Villain "Dancin'": Here's a quick cut from the homey Deal, who has an EP dropping on RTD Records in the near future. RTD Records? Yeah, I said it. Dude's got some shit going on right now, and has some ill music emitting from his studio.

Peep the cover of the EP (EPic) over at LIZ's spot. I'll cough up some more Deal ditties in the near future, more near than the release of EPic. Cryptic posting FTW.

Excess Bangers 38: BANG TIME!!!

No nonsense on this one - some real ill new spit from the week as only Highbrid Nation can give it you.

Polow Da Don "Dancing Machine (Remix)"

Polow Da Don "Dancing Machine (Remix)": I'm gonna just go out and say it - fuckery like this is very unnecessary. If you can do a remix of a classic and improve on it, that's great - let's get it. But if your remix is just updating a classic for the sake of you getting hits, and making it putrid in the end? Fuck your life, and burn down your studio.

EDIT Looks like Universal greenlit a Michael Jackson: Remix Suite 1, with cats like The Neptunes, Dallas Austin, Salaam Remi (who's dubstep track did he jack now?) and Stargate flippin' MJ remixes alongside the above Polow one. What say you?

RTD Presents Summer Sweat 2009

Remember in the '90s, when you used to "sweat" a lot of stuff, from shorty with the ill Nautican jacket to those crisp Air Jordans? I sweat music the same way, be it the corniest of the corny or the duttiest of the dutty.

Let me back up... the other day, my wife made plans for us to go to the Jersey Shore tonight with a friend of hers, and I figured "let's make a CD". I knew I had to include Eminem's "The Warning", b/c homegirl is a big Em fan. Now, we keep it fair and balanced (no Fox News) over here, so of course I had to throw in the "Obsessed" remix with Gucci Mane on it. As I was trying to piecemeal a tracklist for the hour-plus drive, I figured "why not throw in a bunch of tracks that I've messed with over this summer"and ish came together. Some of the inclusions are just ignant ("Gimme $20"), as I usually have one ignant Rap song that I play back-to-back over the summer (remember the Iconz' "Get Fucked Up"?). Others are straight undeniable jawns from the past few months ("Romping Shop", Mario's "Break Up", Drake's "Best I Ever Had"), which are also a testament to my increased listening to Hot 97 (big up to Nobex). Hell, I even included an interlude from the Hot 97 Morning Show with Cipha Sounds & Rosenberg! All of these tracks have gotten some play from me since the unofficial start of summer, and will likely be the tracks I remember from the Summer of '09. Check it out.

DOWNLOAD

Tracklist:

01/Mariah Carey ft. Gucci Mane "Obsessed (Remix)"
02/Verse Simmonds ft. Yung Joc "Buy You A Round"
03/Mario ft. Gucci Mane & Sean Garrett "Break Up"
04/Trey Songz "I Need A Girl"
05/Cassie ft. Diddy "Must Be Love"
06/Amerie ft. Rick Ross, Cain, Jadakiss & Nas "Why R U (Remix)"
07/Vybz Kartel ft. Spice "Romping Shop"
08/Jamie Foxx ft. T-Pain "Blame It (Ted Smooth Remix)"
09/Rick Ross The Boss: Brain Buster (interlude)
10/DJ Class ft. Kanye West "I'm The Shit (Remix)"
11/N.O.R.E. ft. Nina Sky "Shoulders Move"
12/Eve "Me N My (Up In Da Club)"
13/Cam'ron "Spend The Night"
14/Tea Bag Boys ft. Ron Browz & Red Cafe "Gimme $20"
15/Drake "Best I Ever Had"
16/Young Money "Every Girl"
17/50 Cent "Touch Me"
18/Eminem "The Warning"
19/Eminem & Mr. Porter "Chonkyfire Freestyle (Live On Westwood)" (Bonus Track)

Come on, a trip to the Jersey Shore in 2009 and NOT including Cam's DJ Kaycee-biting "Spend The Night"? Pure blasphemy. These are the songs that will have me thinking about my first BlackBerry, or the humid nights in Jersey. Or my early mornings in my cubicle, streaming Hot 9-7. This is (a part of) my Summer of 2009 soundtrack, for good or ill.

[video] The Clipse ft. Pharrell "I'm Good"

Like Meka and FWMJ, it took me a bit to get into this track. I'm still not blown away by it, lyrically, but its got a dope vibe for cool days like today.

Spec Boogie "Time Of My Life"

Spec Boogie "Time Of My Life": While the e-mail this track came in on speaks on Spec's ADD, he actually has two projects dropping this month. "Time Of My Life" is from the first, where he raps over MeLo-X's Maxwell Blacksummers'night remix EP (Spec was so intrigued when he peeped two tracks off of it that he decided to just go in over the whole EP) - this project drops next Tuesday. His work on this, and other projects (*cough*LESSONDARYALBUM*cough*) delayed the Summer Movie Season tape, but he said this will be dropping on August 26th. If you wanna see Spec rip it up live, check him out at Brooklyn Bodega's show on August 28th.

DOA Q&A: Ink & Perpetuum

Straight up and down, Perpetuum is my people. Dude's a talented musician and producer, and his album with DJ Ink (Hard Soul, Pt. 1) drops later this month on Colours Audio. It's not just Drum & Bass - they have House, downtempo, Hip-Hop and other genres thrown in the mix, and it truly does what it says on the tin. Check out my latest DOA interview with this pair.

RIP John Hughes

I just heard that John Hughes passed away from a heart attack earlier today. If you're younger than a certain age, you might not be up on shit like The Breakfast Club, Weird Science, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Some Kind Of Wonderful and the mighty Sixteen Candles, but I grew up with a lot of kids who patterned their lives after characters of those movies. I can't count how many times I watched flicks like Uncle Buck, Home Alone, Dutch and Curly Sue on HBO. Damn.

Dude's a legend in 80's movies. National Lampoon's Vacation?!!? Come on! I fully expect to see John Hughes marathons over the weekend. VH1? HBO? Get on it!

EDIT Here's an ill drop about a woman who became pen pals with John Hughes in the late 80s.

twitter is down

If you follow me on twitter (@khal), you know I'm on that on the regular, whether its via the web or using UberTwitter (which OWNS any BlackBerry Twitter app, trust). Sometimes I'm on it a lil' too much - I can't help it, its a great tool to connect with like-minded folks, and most news breaks on there, early. Anyways, twitter is down. I know because I went to istwitterdown.com, and it told me yes. Looks like there's a DoS attack on twitter right now, Wired is reporting and twitter is confirming via their blog. Keep it locked to their status blog for full details.

With this, and the recent fuckery with PayPal, it looks like someone doesn't want niggas like me accessing the Internets.

EDIT Sam Han blogged about the geopolitics of this attack. Interesting post.

Ying Yang Twins "Centipede"

Ying Yang Twins "Centipede" [clean \ dirty]: To be honest, I thought they were gonna flip my favorite Rebbie Jackson track. Not so. Ying Yang Twins - 2003 called, they want their skrip club anthem back.

Thanks for nothing, MP3WAXX.com.

Bitchassness: Drug Dealer Edition

The bitchass drug dealer in tears is Jose Rodriguez, who got arrested in Trenton recently:

Jose M. Rodriguez, 28, was booked on seven new charges and on three active warrants. Raiders executing a search warrant at his house grabbed 45 grams of suspected marijuana and 10 grams of suspected cocaine... Rodriguez was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance (cocaine); possession of CDS (marijuana); possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, and intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school; intent to distribute within 500 feet of a school; possession of marijuana with intent to distribute; maintaining a narcotic nuisance, and on three active warrants.

My thing is, you do the crime, you don't whimper like a fucking bitch.

12th Planet vs. Ras Kass "West Coast Dub"

12th Planet vs. Ras Kass "West Coast Dub": I remember seeing Media Contender speakin' about this collaboration going down weeks back. I was immediately intrigued - 12 Planet, aka Infiltrata, is one of my favorite DnB producers, and he's made a name for himself with his dubstep under 12th Planet, and Ras Kass' pedigree should already be certified. Their exclusive Media Contender soundclash is not to be fucked with, nor should it be slept on. Make sure your woofers are able to handle that bass.

Jern Eye ft. Guilty Simpson "So & So"

Jern Eye ft. Guilty Simpson "So & So" (prod. by Keelay & Zaire): Keelay & Zaire's MYX Music label is stackin' the deck in their favor - all you who sleep? You lose. Peep this leak from Jern Eye's Vision, which drops on October 13th (2 days after my bornday), and features production from Kee & Z, Illmind and Jake One, with rhymes from Guilty Simpson, Zion I, Cali Agents and some nigga named NightClubber Lang.

Speaking of MXY Music, HipHopOfficial featured MYX; check out this video:

Do I mention that RTD and HTD will be doing something with MXY in the near future? Nah, I'll let that one fester for a bit...

[video] Señor Kaos On Stand On Demand

In my hood, Cablevision reigns supreme, but it seems like Comcast has a lot of poppin' content. Check out the homey Señor Kaos on their Stand On Demand show, with some behind the scenes footage from the "Girls Rock Too" video shoot, as well as the usual "what's pon ya mind" is from the ATL emcee, who's been all over as of late:

EDIT Here's a video of Kaos interviewing Boston's Edan:

Where Hip Hip is From...Where I'm From (Part 1)

This is the first edition of Grandmaster Flash's trek back to the essence - showing you the places that helped shape and mold the science behind the DJ, as well as where Flash came from:

"The Em Is Over"

Earlier this morning, Cipha Sounds & Rosenberg said they were going to have Nick Cannon & Mariah Carey's back in this beef with Eminem (see: "The Warning"). They pulled out this diss track and everything! Entitled "The Em Is Over", I had to admit, this shit had me ROLLIN' this morning. Download it and have a laugh, and then check out Hot 97 and peep the illest morning show out there with Cipha Sounds & Rosenberg.

MP3 via @rosenbergradio.

PS You guys do know that Ciph & Rosenberg have the full morning show at Hot 97, right? No? Probably because Hot 97 hasn't announced it officially. They keep making comments about "just listen", which is true, but there's been no full-fledged official release about it - plus, Hot 97 still has "5AM to 7AM" listed, but they are definitely in the 5AM to 10AM slot. It's quality radio, regardless.

[video] Black Milk Broadcast: R.I.P. BAATIN

Eve "Me N My (Up N Da Club)"

Eve "Me N My (Up N Da Club)" (prod. by Salaam Remi & Benga): I was totally prepared to ignore this track. Eve hasn't excited me... ever. Then I saw Mista Jam tweet about dropping this on the radio soon, and I said "wait, Benga produced this!?!?!?"; Benga's Diary of An Afro Warrior was my shit, and I KNOW his contribution has been used previously, if nowhere but on that very disc! Hip-Hop has found another convert, eh? What'd Salaam Remi do to this, exactly - sounds just like the original Benga jawn... I'm at work, can't confirm WTF the original is, but when I get home I'll update.

MP3 via TSS.

Bonus Beats Benga "E Trips"... someone let me know what Salaam Remi did with this track, if anything? Maybe I'm the only one who cares, or noticed (well, aside from Dart Adams), but it perplexes me. Can Benga not stand alone, or did Remi really throw some magic in there?

Lessondary "We're All In Power"

Lessondary "We're All In Power": Elucid told me yesterday that he'd have a leak for me today, and I wasn't sure what to expect. "We're All In Power" is taken from the Lessondary crew's forthcoming Lessondary Radio project, which finds them flippin' cuts from Exile's Radio album (remember DIS!!??!). Given the flavor of this track, I'm extra hype to hear more - these niggas sound perfect over this one. Damn.

And not for nothing, but Dondub blacked out on this one.

Wordsmith "Half Bar, Half Amazing"

Wordsmith "Half Bar, Half Amazing" (prod. by Strada): This is the third leak (the second is below) from Words' forthcoming The Overdue & Underrated mixtape, which drops August/September 2009 via HipHopDX & 2dopeboyz. Bridging The Gap hits retail stores this month, as well, and is available on iTunes right now!

Bonus Beats Wordsmith "The Great" (prod. by Street Level)

Brown Bag AllStars "Make Way (J57 Remix)"

Brown Bag AllStars "Make Way (J57 Remix)": Latest joint from the Brown Bag Season culminates with the release of The Brown Tape, a mixtape that the BBAS released with Coalmine Records on iTunes (cop it today); J57's "Make Way" remix (cuts from DeeJay Element) is one of the two iTunes bonus cuts, so make sure you grab that tape early and support that quality ish out thee. Shouts to KONCEPT and J who hit me on the batphone last night, 7 beers in.

Shouts to the homies at Stones Throw for hitting me with this snippets mix. Oh No is doing an album using Ethiopian samples entitled Dr. No's Ethiopium (that Oxperiment album was my ish). He's done a snippet mix of the album, and I recommend you rock to this today.

L.e. "Bulldog BMX"

L.e. "Bulldog BMX": Honesty is me telling you I'd never heard one Fly Union track... not one I remember, anyways. Honesty is me not really knowing what to expect when TC told me to peep these tracks. Honesty is me telling you that this track is bangin', and you should check for dude's The Anti-Parachute Theory mixtape, which is endorsed by Nike and drops sometime this month.

Bonus Beats L.e. ft. J. Rawls & DJ O. Sharp "American Idol"

Quite Nyce "Breaking Point (A.I.P. Remix)"

Quite Nyce ft. Q-Unique & Seek "Breaking Point (A.I.P. Remix)": Quite's Hello, My Name is Quite Nyce mixtape drops on the 16th, and this third leak was a pleasant surprise! Many of you underground Hip-Hop fans should've been up on The Arsonists, so you know how Q-Unique gets down. I love the beat on this one - great sunshine day, waking up for work type music. Rock to this in your cubicles today.

Juju ft. Don Carlos "Young Girl"

Juju ft. Don Carlos "Young Girl": Shouts to KNOWxONE for hitting me with this pleasant surprise. Dubstep and DnB fans should know how Juju gets down, and for those who are fans of Black Uhuru, Don Carlos' voice should be a pleasant surprise. I'm not sure how these two got together, but this is a fat slice of roots-flavored dubstep for your earholes. Boh!

Jay-Z Blueprint 3 Cover+Tracklist(?)

Why did Hov go all 808's and Bjork odd on the cover? I'm really not feeling this. Peep the tracklist.

1. What We Talking About (Produced by Kanye West)
2. D.O.A. (Produced by No I.D.)
3. Weigh Me Down Feat. Kid Cudi (Produced by Kanye West)
4. Unforgiven (Produced by Kanye West, Additional Production: MGMT)
5. Run This Town Feat. Rihanna & Kanye West (Produced by Kanye West)
6. Empire State Of Mind Feat. Nas (Produced by Kanye West & No I.D.)
7. When It Comes To This (Produced by Timbaland)
8. Always Feat. Drake (Produced by Kanye West)
9. Scenes From The Past (Produced by No I.D., Co-produced by Kanye West)
10. Everyday A Star Is Born Feat. Mr. Hudson (Produced by Kanye West)

13. Thank You (Produced by No I.D.)

Bonus Tracks:
14. Sound Of The 70s (Produced by Kanye West)
15. We Made History (Produced by Kanye West)

What's Timbaland doing on this? Why do I not feel good with "additional production" credits from MGMT? I'm losing hope on this one. 2009 has been a bust in terms of quality Hip-Hop releases... at least from major labels. My favorite albums are free. Via 2DBz.

EDIT RapRadar has a good point: there's still a month until Blueprint 3 drops; everything is subject to change, so don't be surprised if this cover and/or the tracklist changes by September 11th.

EDIT Here's the most recent tracklist, via Nah Right:

Tef Poe The Redeemer

Here's the latest batch of tracks from STL's Tef Poe. Dude's recently opened up for Lupe Fiasco, rockin' 5K Hip-Hop fans, and I have a feeling his stock is only going to rise. Loads of new production on this tape, mainly by the homey Tech Supreme & the nigga Black Spade.
